For the younger generation out there who may not know, Cincinnati had a NBA team at one point. They were the called the Royals. They moved to Cincinnati in 1957 from Rochester, New York. They a pretty good run with this guy by the name of Oscar Robertson. If you’ve never heard of him, look him up. Then in 1972 they up and moved out of the Queen City and went to Kansas City and became the Kings. The franchise failed to find success there and 13 years later took the team to Sacramento, and have been there ever since… until now (Pending League Approval).
The Kings are renting the U-Haul again, and are heading to (drum roll please)… Seattle. Seattle has been without an NBA team since their beloved Super Sonics bolted for Oklahoma City, became the Thunder and subsequently became one of the best teams in the NBA. Looks like they won’t have to wait much longer to get their team back.
You can read all the details on the relocation and the Sacramento Mayor’s attempt to keep the Kings in his city HERE.
I think it’s great that Seattle is getting their team back. They deserve it. They are a great sports city. Couldn’t be happier for them. I just can’t help but wonder… when will (If ever) Cincinnati get it’s team back. This is a heavy basketball area. Large fan base. I think this city would embrace a team. They’d need a place to play and is obviously a huge road block, but still a guy can dream can’t he? I love basketball. I love playing it, and I loving watching it at the college level. Just wish I had a team to restore my rooting interest in the NBA. Haven’t watched since Jordan was playing, and don’t plan on it until a Cincy team rides again. Charlotte should be due to move again soon right?
What are your thoughts? Cincinnati ever getting an NBA team again? Do you want even want one?
