Cashmere Wright day-to-day with sprained knee

UC coach Mick Cronin said Wednesday that guard Cashmere Wright is day-to-day with a sprained knee.

Cashmere Wright seemed to be walking without a limp after UC’s 75-70 victory over DePaul on Tuesday night as made his way from the locker room to the trainer’s room, which is a good sign for the Bearcats.

As I wrote in Tuesday’s UC-DePaul game preview, Wright has become the closest thing the Bearcats have to an indispensable player because of the way he has played lately. They almost found out in the second half just how indispensable he is.

Wright appeared on the way to one of the best games of his career with 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting and seven assists when he went down with an injury to his right knee about fived minutes into the second half. It was his left knee that caused him to miss his freshman year with a torn ACL.

He went to the locker room with trainer Bob Mangine, but returned a few minutes later to watch the rest of the game from the bench. Mick Cronin said Wright asked to go back in, but Cronin didn’t want to put him back on the floor unless he knew for sure that his point guard was OK.

Cronin would not permit Wright to talk to the media after the game so there was no way to get his view on what happened or how he felt, but all signs were positive as the team left to board the bus to the airport.

Fortunately for UC, the Bearcats found a way to win without Wright.
