The mere sight of Miss Alabama Katherine Webb on national TV, and the words of ESPN commentator Brent Musberger to provide the context, were enough to send the Twitter follower count of Crimson Tide QB AJ McCarron’s girlfriend skyrocketing.
Webb’s first sighting, at the 4:33 mark of the first quarter in Monday’s BCS National Championship Game, resulted in an instant spike in traffic across the interwebs, and that also spread to Webb’s Twitter account (@_KatherineWebb). Prior to the game, Miss Alabama had about 2,000 followers. As of 1 a.m. ET Tuesday, she was above 104,000; one of them wasMiami Heat star LeBron James. James later unfollowed Webb.
Webb provided simple words of encouragement several hours before the game: “Go get ‘em babe.” #RTR
Hours after the game, which Alabama won, 42-14, Webb chose not to acknowledge the uproar with her next tweet.
“So extremely blessed… @10AJMcCarron. Congrats to Alabama and making history! #BCSChamps” she wrote.
